Our Milestones

In the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, during the first half of twentieth century, salt expeditions were covered from Larnaca’s only solar saltwork, catering for the local needs. Grandfather Paraskevas was working at the production site every summer. A great part of the local community of Larnaca was involved in the collection and merchandising of salt which was stimulating the growth of the city, grandfather Paraskevas was in charge of storing the salt in Larnaca’s saltwork.

he came up with the idea of buying some quantities of salt grinding, packaging and selling them. In this way he could work all year around. He creates a small workshop in Stoa of Agios Lazaros.
1982

It all started in 1982 when Michalakis Theodorou created the company M.P. Theodorou (Salt Industry) & Co. Ltd, a small-scale craft unit, consisting of a staff of three people.
1996

In 1996 the company moved to new larger facilities with technologically upgraded machinery, where the production multiplied, giving the company the opportunity to start exporting by making our brand SAILOR known worldwide, since the salt quality could now compete with large salt industries around the world.
1997

1997 The company's commitment to the quality of its products is rewarded with the acquisition of many internationally recognized quality certificates such as ISO, BRC, HACCAP, HALAL, KOSHER and LACON which helped to increase the clientele in more countries.
2000

The insight of the company's owners and managers for innovative products resulted in the creation in 2000 of a new product which was SEA SALT FLAKES.
2002

In 2002 the company creates a unique product worldwide and expands the range of products by adding SEA SALT FLAKES with flavors such as lemon, rosemary, and chili.
2007

In 2007, the second major upgrade of the factory unit takes place with state-of-the-art robotic machines and a doubling of production.
2008

In 2008 the company was awarded for the first time by the Cypriot Government with the Export Award.
2011

In 2011 the company launches in the market under the name SAILOR the new ecological paper packaging of salt, showing the ecological consciousness of the company.
2015

In 2015 SAILOR is upgraded with the new PREMIUM SEA SALT product line with the seagull logo. In the new series are added glass salt mills with special content such as sea salt flakes with black peppercorns and Himalayan salt.
2022

In 2022, the new upgrade of the major equipment begins and the design of new SAILOR products that will meet the needs for the next decade, a project that is expected to be completed in 2024.
